Sant Feliu de Guixols is a town with a rich cultural, historical and architectural heritage. An outstanding example of this is the architectural complex of the Monastery, built in 1723 by the Benedictine order, which includes the Porta Ferrada, the symbol of the town, and the towers of the Corn and Fum.
The old Fort, of the 18th century, and the Sea Rescue building (1889), both situated on the site of the old medieval harbour, are testimonies to the town´s important seafaring tradition. But Sant Feliu also has other lanscapes, such as the surroudings of the chapel of Sant Elm, built in 1723 over the remains of a defence tower, with impressive panoramic views.
Sant Feliu has become an important commercial centre and a focal point of the municipalities of the Aro Valley, with a large number of establishments and a wide variety of products. It is also essential to visit it´s Plaça del Mercat, presided over by the fountain from 1859 and the recently- restored market building, which has fruit and vegetable stalls every day. But the commercial activity reaches its high points on Sundays with the weekly market, which fills the streets with colour and concentrates hundreds of stalls with all kinds of products.
Sant Feliu de Guixols...a visit worth!
